Colour discrimination #soniamadaan Fairness Fairskinned Myth

In current times, we say we are progressing.... we are amongst the developed countries..... but on the other side we still trust and follow the baseless norms and stereotypes prevailing in our society.

Gender bias, body shaming, skin colour discrimination are a few ones.

Let's talk about colour discrimination today.

People are often judged by the colour of their skin.

The moment a child is born, he/she is compared to the other children by family and relatives. Numerous advices, tips and tricks are bombarded at a mother, about how to change the colour of baby's skin.

A marriageable girl or boy having dark skin or discoloration are made to feel embarrassed as they won't get a suitable match.

'The perfect skin has to be of right shade'. This mindset has been passed on by our ancestors and, still we believe this message.

The fair obsession is like a dangerous culture we are following since ages.

It's been said you get a better job, better alliance, happier marriage and beautiful children if you are born fairer, isn't it?

Even in my pregnancy, I was advised to eat coconut, drink saffron milk so I get a beautiful, fair skinned baby!

Why?? I wondered, if my baby is dark skinned, would I love him/her any less?

Not at all!

For me what mattered was a healthy baby, that's it! I love my both kids equally, irrespective of their skin colour.

And any mother across the globe would say the same.

Still, on many social platforms, I have came across such posts where mothers are concerned about the colour of their baby's skin and look for suggestions!

Well, it's not their fault. We are conditioned to believe that being fair means, your life is best and easier.

People spend a hefty amount to change the skin colour by taking medication pills, beauty treatments etc.

By inheriting such ways they can improve their looks and beautify themselves but it would be short termed and fake.

Why can't we accept ourselves the way we are born?

Why we believe in 'fair skin is perfect'?

There are so many examples around us where a dark skinned person has proved he is no less than the fair skinned one.

Each and every person is beautiful and perfect in his own way. Every person has his own skills, talents and capability.

Real beauty is from inside.

A person's thoughts, deeds, actions, perspectives make him or her beautiful.

We should not judge a person by his outer looks but, his heart that is full of love and kindness.

Fairness is just a myth.

Let's stop judging or embarrassing a person by his looks or skin colour and make them feel comfortable and confident.

Let's create a beautiful world with people having beautiful heart i.e noble thoughts and kind deeds.
