Gogreen 5 june Environment

World Environment Day marks celebrating the importance of Mother Nature in our lives. Many programs are hosted, children in schools are asked to plant trees, write slogans ,draw posters in order to create awareness regarding our environment.

But do we really need awareness? Aren't we all aware of the importance of nature? Don't we know that only source of oxygen on our planet are trees?Still we cut them ruthlessly, still we add gallons of sewage in rivers, still we produce harmful gases making our skies grey.

Why such ignorance? Why such harsh behaviour towards our nature?Because we are blindfolded with money. We are unable to think beyond profits and so called progress.

Every year lakhs of trees are cut and only one-third of it is planted. And with horrible figure we celebrate Environment Day by just planting four or five trees. Is this really worth chopping forests round the year and planting only on one dat?

Well my celebration continues throughout the year where I alongwith my family plant trees.I'm lucky to have a father who once bought a plot for a house but planted many trees instead. He plants fruit trees along the roadside so that the passers-by could be benefitted with it.

Following his footsteps,I always plant trees on every occasion.Be it my birthday or anniversary or any puja I never forget to get some lovely plants for my terrace garden.

On my daughter's tenth birthday we (I and my husband) gifted her ten plants.

Apart from this we convert waste plastic containers into beautiful flower pots by colouring them and making worli art patterns on it.Also I have been collecting polythene bags since a year.No polythene bags are thrown in the dustbin.I collect them and send it to an organization 'Ecokaari' which recycle all polybags into mats, purses etc.

All family members never throw a single plastic instead we collect them and handover to plastic factory for recycling. My daughter don't have a plastic pencil box neither a water bottle nor a lunch box.She knows well the harm plastic does to the environment.

I always carry my steel cutlery, paper straws and my own water bottle whenever I step out for eating out. Also I never ask for polythene bag for my groceries.

The most important way I contribute to environment is by teaching my students eco friendly habits.I lay more emphasis on inculcating a sensitivity towards the nature. This is the ultimate way by which we can save our environment. If future generation is aware then definitely future of Earth will be in safe hands.

So I celebrate each and every day with nature.I make sure that I keep grains and water for birds and squirrels. My daughter is a single child and considers her plants her siblings.Let's vow together to value nature,to love environment.
