Nithya had moved to Bangalore, for the same reason anyone has moved to this city,

in the past 20 years. A job opportunity in an XYZ IT company; does it matter which

one?

Yes, she had got a unique designation, but it was still slaughter.

Her elder sister, Anu had already arranged for a place for herself and her sister to

stay in. Indiranagar was her choice.

The initial few months of training and work was exciting and easy to deal with for

Nithya. She used her first computer and let herself understand her work and the

‘uniqueness’ of it. She even returned to the PG by around 05.30pm on a few days.

“Hello, I am Ananya, I am having an issue with my computer, can you help me out?”

“Oh, Sure”, she immediately responded and walked with Ananya;

“by the way, I am Nithya”

And that’s how she made her first friend at work.

Once the issue was sorted out The two of them sat together for lunch and got to

know each other. In fact Ananya was from Belgaum, close to Sirsi, from where

Nithya belonged. That made them bond better, and she felt closer to home every

time she spoke to Ananya.

She was enjoying the newness of the city and was getting sucked into every bit of

it.

On the weekends the Sirsi sisters, explored the city and being the book lovers that

they both were, had bought books enough to build a huge castle. The weekly Pizza

offers in Dominos and Pizza Hut had their meal plans settled. Once in a while, they

would visit book readings, and even attend plays in alliance franchise for a change.

Ananya, her sister from work and Anu her sister were her only two companions in

the city. In the absence of either of them, she chose her own company.

“How much you have both grown up. You are handling your own expenses and are

living alone in the city, and doing so well for yourselves,” their mother’s voice would

brim with excitement and pride, at the same time, over the phone.

Everything felt like it was in place.

But no, Change! That has to creep in and wake you up to reality.

And that’s exactly what happened. Anu got married, it was about time. It was

expected, but Nithya was not prepared. Anu subsequently moved out, and Nithya

felt alone.

Around the same time, Ananya was called back home to manage her family

business as her father had passed away.

Nithya spent hours at work, sometimes even doing other’s share of work just to

keep herself away from her thoughts. At night she read two-four books at a stretch

till she fell asleep; She called home more frequent than before and untimely too.

Work became hectic, with each passing day, and she felt alone with the passing of

every hour. The reality was hard to escape. She decided to move to a different place

and moved to HSR, despite her attachment to the old place.

She gave in to her mundane routine. She would wake up at 07.30, eat breakfast at

A2B, catch her bus to work, with her earphones plugged in and mind her own

business.

At work too, she only did what she was paid for, ate lunch by herself, and would

leave office by 07.30. She would reach home, somehow battling the traffic, and

would lose herself amidst her books and fall asleep, until, tomorrow came by.

This happened for a one whole year, day in and day out.
