Bangalore is facing one of its worst water crisis this year. It’s the end of June and hardly there have been few rain encounters across the city. Rains may be further delayed this year and we are running out of underground water as well. Here’s a few tips to save water and use wisely in this time of crisis. Also, if followed regularly, we will be saving a lot of water for our future generations.

1.Stop water consumption directly from taps.

Always fill two or three buckets of water and use them throughout the day. Using running water for brushing teeth alone wastes upto 5 litres of water. So imagine how much you would save by not leaving the tap running.

2.Re-use water.

Water with which you clean vegetables, rice etc., can be used for watering the plants. Water used for rinsing clothes can be used to clean the floors. Try using already used water for cleaning purposes as much as you can.

3.Rain water-harvesting

Most popular way of saving water. Ofcourse, we have to wait for rains for this. But when it does, collecting and using rain water has proven to be one of the best methods to save a lot of water.

4.Do not use machines which wastes water.

Like washing machines, dishwashers and water filters easily use hundreds of litres of water. Instead, hand wash your clothes and dishes. Boil your water for drinking, cause water filters can waste one bucket of water to give you one glass of drinking water.

5.Avoiding flushing the toilet.

Yes, it sounds disgusting. But flushing the toilet every time wastes enormous amount of water when compared to using mugs or buckets of water to flush the water down the toilet. You could use, used water for flushing.

These small changes when done in large masses will make phenomenal changes in our future.

Please save some water for your grandchildren!
